Vintage Suitcases

6 Jan

Have you ever wondered what people do with old vintage suitcases? Well Some of my favorite ways to use these treasures are  for coffee or side tables, card holders for weddings, or just plain old storage units!

How much should I spend on a vintage suitcase??  I would not spend anymore then $30. I have found most of my suitcases at flea markets for around $15-$20.

Some vintage suitcases may have a strong odor or may be damp or ripped inside. Make sure you open up each suitcase before purchasing. If you feel uneasy about using an older suitcase a number of places are starting to remake decor suitcases to look old but the prices may be pretty steep.

Styling Fun

8 Dec

It was such a beautiful sunny day that I decided to take some “found” items out onto my balcony and pretend I was a stylist! Here is what I did….

My New Apartment Designs

Below are some photos of new styles of design in my apartment. Most of my recent finds have been from Etsy or local Flea Markets

My New Wall Art~!

7 Dec

I finally hung up all of my wall art! For directions on the best and easiest ways, please look at my previous wall art post!

Here are the pictures…..

Below is my first test of how the photos could look. I kept arranging them differently on the floor to see what I liked.

Below is the final arrangement thanks to my sister for giving me her opinion and helping out!

Then I traced each frame onto paper. I taped the paper to the wall. All I had to do was put in the nails and my frames and photos were ready to hang.

The final product!

Chair and Sofa Obsession

These are some pictures of pieces that I must have! Most vintage chairs will need to be reupholstered and that is my next adventure I will try to teach myself soon!

Lets Talk Wall Art

4 Oct

So a large grand picture is always nice but my current obsession is with this placement of different sized picture frames, clocks, and colored frames all scattered above a sofa, desk, or bed creating a modern, vintage, whimsical feel.

I am currently in the process of organizing frames and a vintage style clock over my own bed in place of a large canvas painted piece of art. I have gathered from research and other blogs a grand way of setting your frames up for success instead of a lot of holes in the way. Take a look below for the best ways to organize your frames before ruining your walls!!

Step 1: Make photo copies of the photos you are going to use.

Step 2: On craft paper trace the edges of your frames and cut them out. Arrange items on the floor in the way you would like them. Remember that a general guideline is to hang pictures 6 to 8 inches above the furniture.

Step 3: Use painters tape to tape the paper frame templates onto the wall so you can expirement with different arrangments.

Step 4: Measure and mark X’s on the craft paper where the nail should go.

Step 5: Put nails through the X’s and ripe away the paper.

Also, thanks to help from some new friends in LA, I have discovered a no mess way to puncture your walls without the hassel of hammers and large damage.  They are a special type of nail called, Herculeshooks. The one downside is that they are only able to be used in dry walls.

24 Sep

Bought these vintage style table numbers for my wedding at Etsy.com. Made from tented kraft paper card stock, double sided, aged edges, inked and heat embossed postcard design. Not only that, it had the abbreviation “no.” at the top which is so vintage and cute!!!!

Best purchase ever!

You can find these online at Etsy.Com sold by the shop owner Pammaro. Only $12 for 4 cards.

Find her at http://www.etsy.com/shop/pammaro?ref=seller_info

They came wrapped in this adorable Mr. and Mrs. tissue paper and string tied into a bow!

It had a "thank you for your purchase" card attached to it...how sweet

I was sooooo excited

They were handmade and the pictures do not do them justice!

Creative Spaces

24 Sep

As I learn more about space and design I continue to transform our two bedroom apartment!  I have used Jonathan Adler as an inspiration for color, organization, and design. Our apartment is muted whites and grays with pops of blue and yellow.

http://www.jonathanadler.com/    His pieces have a modern vintage flare which catches the eye.

I try to stay with simple colors only adding small pieces that POP.  This way, when we move I can easily create a new decorative canvas utilizing what I already have and adding in color. Most of our pieces are from West Elm, jonathan Adler, Ikea, Urban Outfitters, and Anthropology. I will admit we are in need of a “real” furniture upgrade from our Ikea pieces. We just ordered a “real” coffee table online in a mirrored antique finish from http://www.horchow.com/

Can not wait to see it!

Below is the very beginning of my interior design hobby

Jonathan Adler Throw and White Picture Frame, Ikea Wall Art, West Elm Large Vase and Furry Pillow

Black and White Box From West Elm

Ikea Wall Shelves, Yellow Vase, Plants, and Picture Frame. Antique Bottle (possibly taken from sister?)

Urban Outfitters Vase collection in Wood
